What do you do when you don’t know what to do? What do you say when you don’t know what to say? What about how to act?
They say adulting sucks. It’s a day-old adage. Yet years down the line and nothing has been done to make it even bearable. Not to live in a fairytale idealistic world but life can’t be all about making ends meet, suppressing or killing your emotions, working so hard and not getting a chance to breathe, drowning in alcohol to release tension or let loose.
I struggle with what comes with adulting. Nobody likes responsibility, granted, however it shouldn’t be like the weight of the world is on your shoulders and you have no outlet. Now I can’t talk from everyone’s perspective as I don’t have a bird’s eye view of things. I can only speak on what I have seen and where I come from.
When does adulting really begin? Why are there no manuals? Humans don’t even like to read manuals on a regular so will there even be a need for a manual? What about learning from other people’s mistakes? Isn’t it sad and depressing to have someone fail at life before another succeeds? Should adulting be a collective effort where we look out for one another instead of facing it head on or solely? So many questions yet the right answers evade me on a regular.
What happens when you think differently? When you believe differently but don’t necessarily have the power to make enough change even in your own life? What happens when old age customs and culture get in the way? What do you do then? Do you do what you want without regard for custom and culture, should you try and find a silver lining, or should you just give up and give in?
Why is it so hard to be a minority and live life on your own terms? Why do you have to constantly learn to shut people out and build resistance to people’s opinions just to have peace of mind. Why don’t people take time to get to know the individual before offering a piece of advice? Why don’t people ever recognize that something that works for majority doesn’t always work for all? Why do we have to get to the points of mental breakdowns, depression, terminal illness, tragedy amongst others before we see the beauty in what is and realize what’s important.
Have we just been taught wrong or not taught at all? They say curiosity kills the cat but many a saying has been misused. Clearly people are suffering. The thought that suffering is normal, and happiness is a luxury is a sad adage. Suffer to gain right? But gain what? Wealth that is fleeting? Prestige? Power? At what expense?
There are always questions like “there must be more to life than working to make a living or provide right? It can’t just be about that, can it?” Life is complex, but can it be made simple? Are we so stuck in our ways that we are afraid of change? Life isn’t easy, but must we get to the point that we hate it? They say you are the choices you make but what if it wasn’t that simple? Life isn’t black and white right? There is no one right answer or solution for everything right?
